Day One
As day breaks, a short 50-minute flight from Adelaide into Port Lincoln allows you to take advantage of a full day of exploring in the region. Once you’ve collected your hire car from the airport, it’s time to start your day with a visit to the Port Lincoln Visitor Information Centre in town to gather maps, a visitor guide and local insights from the friendly staff. This Visitor Information Centre was awarded highest honours in the 2023 South Australian Tourism Awards, so you’re in good hands!
Next stop is a delicious brunch at L’Anse French Café & Croissanterie, where you can enjoy freshly made French-inspired pastries as you study the maps of the area and your itinerary for the next few days. Breathe in the intoxicating scent of freshly brewed coffee as you watch skilled pastry chefs create culinary pieces of art, including their award-winning croissants.
Stop past The Beach Bakery to pick up some sandwiches and sweet treats for a picnic lunch on the go. This thriving bakery is a hub for locals and visitors alike and a takeaway lunch is perfect for a busy day of travelling.
Begin your coastal exploration by driving 30 minutes to Whalers Way – a private sanctuary known for its rugged cliffs, secluded beaches, and stunning views. This privately owned land on the tip of the Southern Eyre Peninsula offers some of the most spectacular, accessible and dramatic coastal views in the state. A wonderland of cliffs, blowholes, crevasses, caves and golden beaches, this spot is not to be missed!
As your coastal journey continues, in just over an hour you will find yourself at Lincoln National Park. Here you can stop to enjoy your picnic lunch and then choose to hike to Stamford Hill for panoramic views of the Spencer Gulf or relax on the sand at September Beach.
After a memorable day exploring the region’s natural beauty, return to Port Lincoln and check in at the Port Lincoln Hotel. An Ocean View Balcony Room overlooking the foreshore of Boston Bay is the perfect base for your Port Lincoln discovery.
It’s time to indulge in the nightlife on offer, so freshen up and step out on the town! Dinner tonight is at Fumo 28, where you will dine on some of the region's renowned fresh seafood. Sourcing the finest fresh produce, this restaurant showcases the best of the Eyre Peninsula and will not disappoint!
Day Two
Today is all about ticking some HUGE experiences off your bucket-list! Jump on board for an exciting day of adventure, education and fun as you embark on a full day tour with Calypso Star Charters.
On your adventure you will experience up-close encounters with sea lions and a thrilling cage-diving experience to witness great white sharks in their natural habitat. These fierce predators of the ocean provide next-level entertainment and an adrenaline rush like no other.
Breakfast and lunch are included on board. Be sure to pack your bathers and towel and some warm clothes to change into after your swim. You’ll also want to take your camera as there are so many wonderful photographic opportunities you’ll want to revisit for years to come!
When you head back to your hotel, take some time to freshen up and maybe enjoy a cheese platter on the balcony as you take in the views across Boston Bay while reflecting on a day well spent. Or if you’re feeling lively, head down to a local favourite restaurant Sarin’s, located within the iconic Port Lincoln Hotel. Share a delicious platter and enjoy a cocktail or two before you head back upstairs to your room and collapse into your comfy bed, exhausted — but in a good way!
Day Three
Just 30 minutes’ drive from town you’ll find yourself in Coffin Bay, renowned for its crystal-clear waters, marine wildlife, and world-famous oysters!
Jump on board Sunset Charters for a Dolphin Swim Cruise for a chance to get up close and personal with these majestic creatures of the sea. Sail out into the most scenic part of Coffin Bay for a once in a lifetime experience with the resident Burrunan Dolphins. Not keen to take a dip? Don’t worry, you can book this tour as a Dolphin Watch passenger and still view all the action from the deck as dolphins frolic right under your feet!
Sunset Charters provides all the equipment you need, as well as breakfast and lunch on board, so you can just enjoy the day.
After an incredible wildlife experience, it’s time to slow the pace down. Venture to Coffin Bay National Park for a relaxed afternoon on one of the many serene beaches or opt to join a tour with Experience Coffin Bay Oyster Farm Tours. This immersive experience allows you to wade out into the crystal-clear waters to tour an oyster farm, learn about the art of shucking oysters, and of course indulge in as many oysters as your heart desires!
Head back to the hotel to freshen up and then step out for dinner at the award-winning Peter Teakle Line & Label Restaurant to indulge in their five-course Trust the Chef menu. This restaurant is a must visit destination for foodies, combining local produce with fresh Asian flavours to tantalise and delight the senses.
Day Four
Start your morning right with a tasty breakfast at The Rogue & Rascal and some of the best coffee in town, followed by a stroll around the town centre exploring shops and galleries, picking up some local souvenirs to take a little piece of Port Lincoln home with you. Be sure to visit The Bay Room for beautiful homewares and gorgeous fashions, and EP Surf to get kitted out in some seriously cool local surfwear! The guys at EP Surf have even created their own line of surf gear that’s uniquely South Australian – these make perfect gifts for the kids or grandkids!
Take a short five-minute drive to Winter Hill for a photo opportunity with some of the best views you can get of Port Lincoln. This lookout provides stunning views of the Port Lincoln township and Boston Bay. A photo to take home, frame and show off to your friends as a memory of your time spent in the region.
Once you’ve packed your bags and checked out of your accommodation, this is your last chance to immerse yourself in the local seafood industry with a visit to the Fresh Fish Place to indulge in a seafood platter for lunch. From King George Whiting to the famous local tuna and (of course), a few more oysters!
Last stop on the itinerary is a visit to Jump Ship Brewing for a farewell drink. This local establishment is a family-owned business committed to brewing quality craft beers with a nod to their family history and the pristine environment of the Eyre Peninsula.
Filled with wonderful memories, it’s time to head to the airport to drop off your car and take the late flight out of Port Lincoln.
