On the 24th of March 2023, The Port Lincoln Tuna Classic will host its 17th competition that shines a light on sustainable fishing pactices. The Port Lincoln Tuna Classic is held off the shores of Port Lincoln, the home of the biggest commercial fishing port in the Southern Hemisphere and the “Seafood Capital of Australia”, what better way to promote this beautiful town than host the biggest Tuna Competition in South Australia.
Our region is recognised for its pristine waters, some of the freshest and most sought after seafood in the world and undoubtedly a fisherman’s paradise.
Our event is held over 2 days with competitors coming from all over Australia to tag and release Southern Bluefin Tuna and experience the beauty of this region.
The Port Lincoln Tuna Classic started in 2006, it is a non-profit organisation aimed at getting fishermen together for a fun filled fishing event that encourages fishing conservation by implementing ‘tag and release’ only . Unlike other competitions, the only targeted species is the Southern Bluefin Tuna.
The boats are divided into two categories; trailer boats and boats over 8 meters. Along with these two categories, we also have a junior and small fry category. This is because we have a strong belief that we need to encourage more children to fish.
