SUMMARY:Love Notes to the Laundromat
DESCRIPTION:Love Notes to the Laundromat is a celebration of the shared spaces that bring people together. Part creative response\, part placemaking experiment\, Love Notes to the Laundromat is a collection of love notes written by local artist Eliza Wuttke to Third Places across Port Lincoln. A Third place is a communal place between home and work or school where people spend time. Eliza has spent the last six months visiting various Third Places in and around Port Lincoln and writing love notes to them. She’s visited traditional Third Places\, like the library\, jetty pool and parks as well as more obscure spaces where people pass time\, like the laundromat on a wet Sunday evening. Attendees are invited to write their own love notes to the places they hold dear and add them to the exhibition.

SUMMARY:Feature Exhibition: Impressions
DESCRIPTION:SALT Festival 2024 Feature Exhibition\, Impressions\, where the artistic Journeys of Belle Stanley and Beth Hammond converge\, inviting you to explore the boundless wonders of nature and the dynamic interplay of colour and memory. \nBeth’s work draws inspiration from diverse sources\, from a landscape sketch in paint or pencil\, the memory of being in the bush on a particular day or a roadtrip through the Australian landscape. Exploring a range of colour combinations and with different sizes and types of surfaces from acrylic perspex\, canvas and board. \nBelle’s creative process is inspired by her deep love of wandering around in nature\, from the remote endless beaches around the EP to following kangaroo trails through the scrub\, this is the beginning of the process for all her work. Belles work explores the different shapes and textures she finds in nature\, and drawing from her knowledge of silversmithing techniques\, she captures the essence and beauty of the EP in her work.

SUMMARY:Yer Old Father
DESCRIPTION:Set in the industrial town of Whyalla\, this is an intimate portrait of John Croall\, a Glaswegian immigrant to Australia\, and the father of long-time Adelaide Fringe director\, Heather Croall. John Croall delivered three generations of babies and planted thousands of trees in the town. He was also a great letter writer\, and this very personal documentary uses these letters as its point of departure. Heather Croall films with her father as a way of coping with his approaching death and reflecting on the close\, and often very funny\, relationship between a father and a daughter. This opens up an exploration that transcends individual grief and loss\, to encompass the broader issues raised by a man’s life. As John Croall is dying\, so the town of Whyalla is slowly dying too. But on the horizon there is hope of a new industry with solar farms and a possible new buyer for the steelworks. The trees John Croall planted in the desert live on and amongst the harsh reality of change\, and this film offers hope as the town he invents itself. \nReviews \n“Full of wit and vigour\, Heather Croall’s film will charm Australian and Glaswegian audiences alike. It’s a chronicle of a life well lived” – Jennie Kermode\, Eye for Film \n“The doco is well-made (the editing by Tania Nehme particularly strong)\, but it is it’s subject matter that makes this documentary so lovely” – Brydie Kosmina\, Collage Adelaide \n“The documentary captures the impact of an astounding character with this story about immigration” – Pat Byrne\, Glasgow West End \n“The way the film is edited creates a lovely story out of the material shot over years by Croall\, and is perfectly paced” – Katherine Prentice\, Glasgow Guardian
